Trivia[]

  • This song was recorded in Al's home in 1976.
  • This is the first song that Dr. Demento played by Weird Al on his radio show in California.
  • The opening of the song is taken from the Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 by Franz Liszt.
  • In 1979, Weird Al rerecorded this song with slight lyrical changes under the title "Cruisin' down Higuera." Higuera Street is one of the longest and most active streets in downtown San Luis Obispo.
  • In 2000, Weird Al performed an excerpt of this song in Behind the Dementia made for Alcon 2000. You can see the following video right here.
  • In 2018, Al performed the song while riding in an actual Plymouth Belvedere while being driven by Jay Leno in an episode of the latter's CNBC show "Jay Leno's Garage". (Leno was allegedly unaware of the accordion placed on the back seat.) That episode, "Origins", first aired in the U.S. on August 23, 2018. Some clips were posted on Facebook in the days before, including one of the song itself.
  • When Al perfomed the song on 2000 he says at the end "I've gotten better".
