I've seen it suggested that this is a style parody of Harry Chapin instead of Cat Stevens, but I'm not sure who Harry Chapin is so I'd rather someone else looked at that possibility than me 68.229.73.51 02:24, June 24, 2015 (UTC)\

So it sounds a lot like "A Better Place to Be" by Harry Chapin, both in theme and progression.  There are other influences of course, but it slapped me in the face the first time I heard it.

My first impression was that it was a Harry Chapin parody, but primarily "Taxi". "Taxi" is a rambling song where the protagonist tells a story about himself and an old girlfriend meeting by chance as a taxi driver and their passenger; so the parallels are pretty strong.
